Yeosu is a city on the seashore that benefits from its location in the Jeollanam-do province. Because the city has a pleasant environment even in the middle of summer thanks to the mild currents and breezes that blow off the ocean, it draws a significant number of visitors. The Hanryu-sudo trail begins at this location, which is located about in the midpoint of the southern shore. Jinnamgwan Pavilion
The Jinnamgwan Pavilion is now officially numbered 304 on the list of national treasures. It is the largest pavilion in Yeosu that is constructed out of wood and it looks out over the town centre. During the Yi era, this wooden pavilion was used as a guesthouse. During the Japanese invasion of Korea, it also played the role of a sacred site for naval men who served the Korean navy. This wooden structure only has one story, but it has a massive roof that is supported by 68 pillars that are rounded and robust. Views of the port and the well-known Dolsan Bridge may be had from this vantage point.
Chungmin-sa Shrine
The Chungmin-sa Shrine was the first temple to be built in honour of Admiral Yi Sun-shin, a national hero. The shrine is located at Chungmin-sa. During the conflict known as the Imjin War, it was he who was responsible for leading the Korean Naval forces to victory against the Japanese soldiers. The shrine may be found up on the hills in an area that is characterised by an exceptional degree of tranquilly and rest. This holy site is also recognised as an important historical location by the government.
Odong-do Island
The Odong-do Island is around 30 acres in size and may be found right off the coast of Yeosu. A causeway that is 768 metres long connects it to the city of Yeosu, which is located on the mainland. This causeway marks the western boundary of Hallyeo National Park. The park is home to a plethora of bamboo and camellia trees, both of which contribute to the natural splendour that can be found there. On the island, there is a botanical garden, as well as a lighthouse and a cave known as the dragon’s cave.
Hyangiram
A Buddhist hermitage, Hyangiram was once known by its previous name, Weontongam. During the time of King Uija of the Baekje people, the monk Weonhyo was the one who founded it. During the Japanese invasion, it served as a base camp for Buddhist monks who aided Admiral Lee Sun-resistance shin’s movement. The most important buildings in Hyangiram are the Daeungjeon, Gwaneumjeon, Chilseonggak, Dokseodang, and Chwiseongru, all of which have been well maintained.
Baekdo Island
An intriguing location, Baekdo may be found around 28 kilometres to the east of Geomundo Island. The different rocks and cliffs in this area, each with their own distinct form, combine to create a breathtaking panorama. The island is home to more than 300 unique plant species and 170 unique oceanophyte species, some of which include porifera and red coral. However, since landing on the island is not permitted, the only way to appreciate the breathtaking panorama is to take a boat ride around the island in a clockwise direction.
