Sanahin Monastery

Sanahin Monastic is a monastery complex with a beautiful church that dates back to the 10th century. The moss-covered compound has a considerable number of ancient burials. The inner sanctuary of Holy Mother of God Church, which originates from the 10th century, is the oldest edifice in the complex. The monastery was formerly the Zakarian family’s favourite location to unwind. Within the complex, there are a number of historic churches and school buildings.

Mikoyan Museum

Mikoyan Museum is devoted to the Mikoyan brothers, Anastas and Artyom, and is located near Sanahin village. Various photographs of the two brothers are on show here. The brothers’ uniforms and medals are also on display at the museum. Outside the museum, a Mig Jet is also on exhibit.

Hagapat Monastery

The Hagapat Monastery is one of Armenia’s most popular tourist destinations. This monastery has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monastery, which sits on the rim of the Debed Canyon, has undergone several renovations and extensions since its establishment in the 10th century. The monastery is also thought to be the birthplace of Armenian poet Sayat-Nova. The monastery has a bell tower, a library, and a refectory, as well as magnificent inscriptions and khatchkars.

Akhtala Monastery

Akhtala Monastery, about 11 miles (18 km) from Alaverdi, is recognised for its amazing carvings and frescoes and is located on the boundary of Akhtala hamlet. The complex of the monastery dates back to the 13th century. It was also surrounded by a large wall for protection. Within the compound is a church with stunning frescoes. There are also some well-preserved chapels in the monastery, as well as a cemetery around the church.
