Laleia’s Portuguese Church
The Portuguese Church in Laleia is one of the most magnificent and eye-catching churches in all of East Timor. The church is not very large in size, but it is carefully painted with pink colour, and it has two towers that are exquisite in design. There is a river nearby, and there is a long bridge that crosses it. The church may be found around 19 kilometres to the east of Manatulo.
Pantai Wataboo Beach
This stunning beach can be found near Osolata, which is around 5 kilometres from the town of Baucau. Because of the wonderful environment that surrounds this beach with white sand, visitors are compelled to spend the whole of their day at the beach. In the immediate vicinity of this beach, there are a number of fishing communities scattered among the coconut groves.
Mt Matebian
East Timor is home to some of the world’s tallest mountains, including this one. The mountain has an elevation of roughly 7,595 feet. In addition to its more common name, “Mountain of the Dead,” Mt. Matebian has another name. It is considered a sacred site by the residents of the area, and there is a statue of Christ on it. In the month of October, a significant number of pilgrims visit this location. This peak may even be seen from the town of Laga, which is located along the coast route, as well as from Venilal. There are a few settlements in the surrounding area, such as Ossuna, Oeiburu, Afaloeki, and others. In the villages of Buibela and Lena, you may see people still adhering to the traditions and rituals that were practised by their ancestors.
Lautem Village
Lautem Village sits around 60 kilometres from Baucau. A Portuguese Fort that is now falling into disrepair as a result of the passage of time is one of the primary attractions in this area. The bunkers that were constructed along the shore by Japanese troops during World War II may also be seen by visitors.
Com Village
The settlement of Com, which is situated around 21 kilometres from Lautem, offers excellent fishing chances to tourists. In addition, the beaches on the outskirts of the settlement provide excellent opportunities for snorkelling and scuba diving. On the weekends, significant numbers of people from the neighbouring towns and even Dili go to this hamlet to spend their time.
