Tourist Attractions in Chiang Rai, Thailand
Wat Phra Kaew
This is the holiest Buddhist shrine in Chiang Rai, and it is believed that it dates back to before the 15th century. Another name for this place of worship is Wat Pa Yia, which literally translates to “Bamboo Forest Monastery.” It is said that during the 15th century, the Emerald Buddha, also known as Phra Kaew Morakot, was discovered here after being removed from the stupa of the temple that had been destroyed by lightning. This particular Emerald Buddha may be seen now at a wat (Thai temple) in Bangkok. The main hall of the temple is constructed out of wood, and the stupa, which was built in the Lanna style, has a very magnificent appearance.
Wat Jet Yot
This religious establishment can be found on Jet Yo Road not far from the Boonbundan Guest House. The temple has a stupa with seven spires that is very similar to the Wat Jet Yot Stupa located in Chiang Mai. The stucco decoration and the hardwood ceiling in the main hall of the temple are two of the temple’s most prominent characteristics. This ceiling is one of a kind since the fresco that is painted on it tells various stories about different parts of Thai astrology.
Wat Phra Singh
Chiang Rai is home to this temple, which is located close to Me Kok Villa. The impressive statue of Buddha can be seen inside of this temple, which dates back to the 14th century. The construction of the temple took place during the reign of King Mahaphrom. The entrance of the wat is fashioned in the Thai Lu style and decorated with dragon carvings. The wooden structures of the wat are created in a style typical of northern Thailand, which can be seen in the construction of the wat.
Hill Tribe Museum & Education Center
Thanalai Road is the location of the Hill Tribe Museum and Education Center in Northern Thailand. The museum provides a comprehensive introduction to the way of life, history, and culture of the several hill tribes that may be found in Thailand. The museum has a wide variety of exhibits, some of which include anthropological artefacts, anthropological equipment, and tribal clothing. In addition, there is a slide exhibition about indigenous people available for viewing in the Education Center. There is a gift store located in the centre where you may purchase a variety of products that have been crafted by local people.
Tham Tu Pu
Tham Tu Pu Tham Tu Pu is located in the general direction of the north of the Mae Nam Kok River. It is a centre for meditation, and a big number of individuals who are interested in studying the methods of the Vipassana form of meditation make their way there regularly. The centre is located on the summit of a limestone cliff, and the only way to get there is through a set of steps that start at the foot of the cliff and go up to one of the chambers within the meditation centre.
