National Museum

Viharamahadevi Park
Viharamahadevi Park, the largest of all the parks in Colombo, was previously known as Victoria Park. In 1958, the name was changed to show respect for King Dutugemunu’s mother, Viharamahadevi. The park’s rich flora, which includes blooming plants and gorgeous trees, is well-known. The park also has several water channels and fountains. The park’s magnificent white-domed Town Hall is located to the northeast. If you remain here till the evening, you’ll see a lot of elephants sleeping in the park.
Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara Temple
In Kelaniya, on the outskirts of Colombo, there is a significant Buddhist temple, called Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara Temple. It is thought that the Buddha gave his talks here once upon a time. The Indians kings destroyed the original temple built on this location. Later, the Portuguese demolished the temples that had been erected on the site. At this location, there is now a beautiful temple erected roughly 200 years ago. A lovely sculpture of Buddha may be found at the temple. Every year in January, the temple hosts a religious procession.
Wolvendaal Church
Wolvendaal Church is the city’s most historic Dutch church. It is built in the shape of a Greek cross. This church’s floor tiles were made from tombstones from a Dutch church. The church’s greatest appeal is its Dutch furnishings. There is a magnificent pew made with remarkable creative talent, as well as beautifully carved ebony seats. It was made on the Dutch governor’s specific instruction. The craftsmanship throughout the chapel is impressive.
Dehiwala Zoo
Dehiwala Zoo, in the Dehiwala section of the city, has a wonderful assortment of animals and is located in the southern part of the city. It is home to a diverse range of plants and birds from throughout the world. There is an amazing aquarium and aviary that is enjoyed by both children and adults. The elephant show is the zoo’s primary attraction. The show is held every evening, in which the elephants perform intriguing dances.
Pettah Bazaar
Pettah Bazaar is Colombo’s principal market district. It is located to the east of the Fort and to the north of the railway station. This bazaar provides a fantastic view of the city’s bustling economic activity. You’ll find the best deals here, as well as a large choice of items such as textiles, dress materials, and so on. Children’s clothing, footwear, and purses are among popular items.
Galle Face Green
The Galle Face Green is located to the south of the Fort. It’s essentially a large lawn near the sea. This location attracts a large number of residents in the evening. Thousands of enthusiastic teenagers come here to enjoy kite-flying or socialise with their friends. In the evening, this spot offers a fantastic view of the sunset.
Mt Lavinia Beach
Mt Lavinia Beach is approximately 7 miles (11 km) south of Fort. Though it is not one of the country’s top beaches, it is a nice place to unwind and enjoy yourself away from the city’s throng. Swimming is permitted here. In this location, there are a number of fine hotels, the best of which is Mount Lavinia Hotel, which has colonial charm and a distinct appeal.
