The artefacts that were discovered in the Greco-Bactrian sites of Takht-i-Sangin and Kobadiyan are on show in this museum and make for an interesting exhibit. The museum is an important site for the preservation of historically significant artefacts such as the original Sogdian murals that were discovered in Penjikent. You are able to have a look at an antique statue of Buddha in deep sleep that was discovered in Adjina-Tepe. Within the walls of the museum, taking photographs is not permitted under any circumstances.

Museum of Traditional Musical Instruments

The District Court in Dushanbe is conveniently located next to the Museum of Traditional Musical Instruments. Badakhshani actor Gurminj Zavkybekov was the one who initiated the establishment of the museum in the middle of the 20th century. It is also known as the Gurminj Museum, which is derived from the name of its owner. There is a portion of the museum that is dedicated to the display of old musical instruments. The museum has a variety of unique artefacts, some of which include mandolins, fiddles, drums, vintage photographs, and other mementos, among other things. Exhibits relating to the Soviet period may be seen on the museum’s uppermost level.

Haji Yakoub Mosque

The location of this important Islamic building in the city of Dushanbe is to the west of the Hotel Avesto. Haji Yakoub, a prominent figure in Tajik religious history, is honoured by having his name bestowed to the mosque. The most prominent aspects of this mosque are its ornately decorated entrances and columns, as well as its glittering golden dome. The inside of the mosque is designed in a way that is quite appealing. The crescent-shaped minaret at the top of the mosque is ornately adorned. The only part of the mosque that female visitors are permitted to access is the courtyard; the prayer hall is off limits to them.

Dushanbe Zoo

The Pamir Stadium and the Dushanbe Zoo are both located in the centre part of the city of Dushanbe. The first animals were brought to the zoo in 1961 when it first opened its doors. This zoo is home to more than 600 different species of animals, birds, and reptiles at the present time. The Bactrian camels, brown bears, snakes, and raccoons are the primary points of interest at this location. Other animals that may be found in this area are jackals, vultures, foxes, and wolves.

Statue of Ismail Samani

Ismoili Somoni is the name that the locals give to the statue depicting Ismail Samani. Maydani Azadi, also known as Freedom Square, is where the statue is located. Ismail Samani, a Samanid monarch who ruled in the 10th century, is honoured with a monument that is not all that old but was recently erected. It is generally agreed that Samani was an excellent leader of the nation. Earlier, a statue of Lenin stood at this location; however, it has since been moved to Bagh-i-Markazi.

Varzob Gorge

About 56 km outside of Dushanbe is where you’ll find the beautiful Varzob Gorge. A variety of scenic spots can be found in the area close to the gorge, which are available for the guests’ enjoyment. In this area, hikers may choose from a wide variety of different trails to explore. The Gusgarf Waterfalls are a beautiful destination that can be found around 7 km to the south of Varzob and make for a great day trip. There are minibuses that leave Dushanbe and go all the way up to the settlement of Varzob. From there, you’ll be able to go on foot and explore the local area.

Hissar Fortress

Hissar Fortress is an old edifice that has been there for a long time and can be found in the Hissar Valley, which is around 30 kilometres west of Dushanbe. It was there that a lot of historically important events took place. Historically, this fort served as a basmachi stronghold, and it was held by Ibrahim Beg right up to the year 1924. The majority of this fort was destroyed by the Red Army. The perimeter of the fort encompasses around 69 acres of land. The architectural style of this castle is reminiscent to that of the Timurids. The Darvaza-i-Ark, also known as the stone doorway, was built as a wayfinding structure at the entry of Timur’s Hissar domain. In close proximity to the entrance is where you’ll find the Medressa-i-Kuhna and the Medressa-i-Nav, both of which are constructions that are well worth seeing.
