Ananuri Fortress
The Ananuri Fortress is a worthwhile destination that can be found on the Georgian Military Highway. In the 16th century, dukes of Aragvi were responsible for building the fortification. Throughout its whole existence, it was a witness to a number of fierce conflicts. Sheupovari is the name of the massive tower that can be found in this area. Incredible views of the surrounding area may be had from the highest point of the tower.
Jvari Pass
Jvari Pass is also known as the Pass of the Cross due to the fact that David the Builder constructed a cross and placed it at this location at one point in time. On Jvari Pass, there are a few different springs that you may visit. Along the trip, there are also a number of mineral water streams where you may stop and sip some cool water.
Alexander Kazbegi Museum
The Alexander Kazbegi Museum may be found in close proximity to Kazbegi’s central plaza. Kazbegi was a well-known author who penned a large number of books and plays. This museum is located in his home and has an interesting assortment of photographs, papers, and clothing that belonged to Alexander Kazbegi. In the chambers on the first floor, you will also find some of the furniture that was used by the Kazbegi.
Tsminda Sameba Church
The construction of this church began in the 14th century and took place on a hill that provides a panoramic view of the town of Kazbegi. This enormous structure serves as a metaphor for the grace and tenacity that characterises the Georgian people. The climb up to the church is an enjoyable and invigorating experience. Nevertheless, the inside of the church is not very beautiful or appealing to the eye. Views of the Georgian Military Highway are available to be seen from the highest point.
Gargeti Trek
This path is around 10 kilometres in length, can be found close to Kazbegi, and leads all the way to the peak of Mt. Kazbek. You may continue along the trail from the community of Gergeti and make your way to Tsminda Sameba, which is located atop the hill, and then on to the Gargeti Glacier. Gargeti is an enormous glacier that extends almost all the way to the summit of Mt. Kazbek. Because there is a lot of ice on the climb up to the meteorological station, it is recommended that only persons with expertise make the trek.
Mt Kazbek
Mount Kazbek is a dormant volcano that is about 5047 meter tall. This mountain is the subject of a multitude of legends and myths that are passed down through generations. After stealing fire from the gods, the Georgians believe that Amirani was tied up on this mountain and left there to die. The Betlemi cave was thought to be the dwelling place of a recluse at the time. On Mt. Kazbek, there is a cave that may be found at an elevation of 4,000 m. The Caucasus Travel Hut, which has been constructed up in close proximity to the cave, is where you may rent climbing gear.
Kazbegi Nature Reserve
Jvari Pass, the southern Khokhi range, and Truso Gorge are all included within the boundaries of Kazbegi Nature Reserve, which was established in 1979. Beech woods, subalpine forests, and alpine meadows are only few of the numerous kinds of vegetation that may be found at different elevations inside the reserve. In this protected area, there are hundreds of different plant types, and some of the animals that live there include chamois, turs, foxes, hares, and wild cats.
