The State Archeological Museum

1977 was the year that saw the birth of this museum, which is now housed in a facility on the outskirts of Panaji that was just recently opened to the public. There are seven different galleries inside the museum. The Sculpture Gallery, the Banerji Art Gallery, the Cultural Anthropology Gallery, the Contemporary Art Gallery, the Christian Gallery, the Western Bronzes Gallery, and the Religious Expression Gallery are the galleries that make up this complex. The museum has a vast collection of antiquities, including works of sculpting, objects made of wooden and metal, manuscripts, a collection of numismatic items, paintings, and a great deal more.

Arch of the Viceroys

The Viceroy Francisco da Gama was the one who initiated the construction of the Arch of Viceroys in the year 1597. He took great pride in being Vasco da Gama’s grandson. Stone made of laterite was used in the building’s construction. There is a little statue of Vasco da Gama that is perched on top of the arch. A bronze statue of Saint Catherine stood atop the arch’s third tier until it collapsed entirely in 1948; this monument may now be seen within the museum. The arch itself was destroyed in 1948.

St. Catherine Cathedral

Due to the fact that it was built on the same spot where Alfonso de Albuquerque made his first landing in Goa, the Saint Catherine Cathedral has a rich and significant historical heritage. Alfonso himself was responsible for the first construction of a church, which was subsequently expanded upon by future Portuguese Governors and Viceroys. The Archbishop’s Palace

Fort Aguada

Fort Aguada, which is noted for being the vestige of Portuguese authority that has been kept in the best possible condition, was built in the year 1609. This fort got its name from a spring that bubbles up within its walls that provides potable water; the fort itself is located close to the spring. This fort was constructed in a strategic location to withstand assaults from the opposing side, since it is situated on the estuary of the river Mandovi. Perreira-Braganza / Menezes-Braganza House

This home, which is owned by the Braganza family, can be found in the Chandor Village, which is around 13 kilometres away from Margoa. Palolem Beach

The Palolem Beach may be reached by travelling about three kilometres in the opposite direction from the Canacona Railway Junction. Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary
