Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Canton
This magnificent structure may be seen in Guangzhou’s Canton district. Guillemin, a French architect, designed the church, which was completed in 1888. Previously, this location housed the Governor’s Office of Guangxi Province, which was destroyed by the French. The church is constructed of granite. The House of Stone is another name for it. It has stained glass windows made from glass imported from France. The church also features a large clock and bronze bells, both of which were produced in France. The cathedral was constructed in the Gothic style and is rather large. This location is usually packed.
Liurong Si
The Temple of the Six Banyan Trees, also known as Liurong Si, is a very old temple in Guangzhou. It is thought to date from before the 12th century. Su Dongpo, a poet-governor, is reported to have visited this location around 1100 AD and named the temple by writing certain characters on two stone steles. This temple now has a floral pagoda in which various Indian treasures are maintained. Many sculptures may also be seen on the pagoda’s wooden eaves.
Yuexiu Park
Yuexiu Park in Guangzhou covers an area of around 222 acres. Beixiu Hu, Garden of Chinese Idiom, Five Rams Statue, Zhenhai Lou (Gate Tower Facing the Sea), and other little attractions may be found around the park. The park has gaming courts, teahouses, restaurants, and other amenities. Jiefang Bei Street is the park’s main entrance. Ancient pottery, ivory, coins, statues, letters, and some antique papers may be seen in the Municipal Museum, which is housed in the Zhenhai Lou.
Temple of Light and Children’s Love
This temple, which is near to the Temple of Six Banyan Trees, is thought to date from the first century BC. It was constructed as King Zhao Jiande of Nanyue’s home. During the third century, it was turned into a temple. At the time, Indian monks who journeyed to China stayed at this temple. On both sides are two iron pagodas dating from the 10th century, known as Dongtie Ta and Xitie Ta. Hundreds of Buddha sculptures may be seen in the eastern pagoda, while the western pagoda is a three-story structure.
