Marmashen Monastery

Marmashen Monastery is a fascinating destination to visit, located around 6.2 miles (10 kilometres) from Gyumri. The monastery has three main churches and is located in the broad gorge of the Akhuryan River. These churches, carved elegantly from rock, are surrounded by the ruins of many other structures.  Surp Stepanos, one of these churches, was built in the 10th century. Different tombs and khatchkars may also be seen in the vicinity.

Harichavank Monastery

For a few years in the second half of the nineteenth century, this monastic complex, located approximately 2.5 miles (4 kilometres) from Artik, functioned as the summer house for the catholicos of Echmiadzin. The monastery is located in the old village of Harich on the slopes of Mt Aragats. The entire place looks to be desolate and lonely. Near the complex are a number of structures dating from the nineteenth century. Domes and gavits were added to a seventh-century chapel. A few exquisite frescos may be found in several of the structures.
