Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago and one of the most well-known tourist attractions. In terms of population, the country is ranked sixth in the globe. Indonesia is located north of Australia, south of Vietnam, Singapore, and the Philippines, and north of Australia. It stretches 3,100 miles (5,000 km) from east to west and covers a large land and water region. The country’s northern and southern ends are separated by around 1,242 miles (2,000 km).
Indonesia has a total of over 17,000 islands under its territory. Approximately 6,000 of these islands have never had a human population. Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Java, and Irian Jaya are the country’s five most important islands, accounting for the majority of the country’s population. Indonesia has a long coastline with some of the best coral reefs on the planet.
Festivals, arts, crafts, costumes, architecture, and numerous dance styles abound throughout Indonesia. Due to extensive rainforests, many parts of the country’s interior are difficult to reach and hence stay isolated from the rest of the world. These ethnic enclaves have a completely distinct culture from the rest of the country. They have their own language, culture, traditions, and customs. The country is home to a diverse range of tribes, including Malay, Javanese, Sudanese, and others. There are around 360 languages spoken here, with Bahasa Indonesia, English, and Dutch being the most common. Islam is the official religion of the country, and it has the largest number of followers. Other faiths that are practised by a lower percentage of the population include Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism.
