Maubara Portuguese Fort

This fort was built in the 17th century and can be found at Maubara, which is about 48 kilometres to the west of Dili. The fort’s location is quite close to the shore of Maubara. The Portuguese used this fort as both a military outpost and a jail during their time here. The Portuguese positioned antique cannons at the fort’s corners so that they could defend it with them when they first constructed it. The fort’s walls are enormous and provide a breathtaking view of the ocean. In one section of the fort, there are also ruined military buildings that may be viewed.
