Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka’s premier hill resort, located in the central highlands. It is located at a height of more than 6000 feet (1828 m). Tourists come here to enjoy the natural tea greens and nice weather, and to feel completely refreshed by the clear air and breathtaking landscape that delights all of the senses. Nuwara Eliya is the epicentre of the tea business and is surrounded by beautiful tea plantations. You’ll pass through acres of tea plantations on each side of the road to Nuwara Eliya, no matter which route you go.
Nuwara Eliya is located around 76 km from Kandy and 111 km from Colombo. It is the best place to escape the hot, humid weather in Sri Lanka. In Nuwara Eliya, there are several tourist attractions. Victoria Park is right in the heart of the city. The Pedro Tea Estate gives guests the chance to see how a tea factory works and how leaves are processed. The Hakgala Botanic Gardens are located at the foot of Hakgala Rock.
Hortons Plains National Park is located in the southern section of the hill country, beyond Hakgala. It’s a fantastic day trip and a haven for nature enthusiasts, hikers, and bird watchers.
Holidaymakers may enjoy a variety of activities in Nuwara Eliya, including boating, horseback riding, and rock climbing. The Nuwara Eliya golf course is one of the greatest in the Asia-Pacific area. Many notable waterfalls are located around the town and may be explored as part of hiking or leisure vacations. The Pidurutalagala (8366 feet, the country’s tallest mountain, is located to the north of the town. It allows tourists to hike up to 7000 feet.
The British planters used to love Nuwara Eliya town. It still looks to be an exact replica of a British settlement. Many bungalows and structures of colonial design may be seen here. Even new structures are built in the British style to preserve the town’s unique ambience.
Main Attractions of Nuwara Eliya
Victoria Park
Victoria Park is right in the heart of the city. The park’s greenery takes tourists back to the British era. This park is great for strolls since it has a wide variety of trees and plants. The park blooms with flowers from March to May and August to September, making it a wonderful spot to visit.
Pedro Tea Estate
Pedro Tea Estate is located around 2 miles (3.5 km) east of Nuwara Eliya. It offers visitors to watch the operation of a tea factory as well as the processing of leaves. The machines that are employed here are largely from the British era. Near the plantations, there is a wonderful teahouse where you may enjoy a delicious cup of tea.
Hakgala Botanic Gardens
Hakgala Botanic Gardens are located at the foot of Hakgala Rock. To the south of Nuwara Eliya, it is a popular summit. The gardens were established in 1860 with a cinchona tree cultivation. These gardens are now known for their roses, ferns, and orchids. Monkeys, samburs, and a variety of bird species may all be found in the gardens.
Hortons Plains National Park
Hortons Plains National Park is located in the southern portion of the hill country, beyond Hakgala. This highest plateau of Sri Lanka, at 6,562 feet, is a fantastic adventure and a haven for nature enthusiasts, hikers, and bird watchers. The park’s main appeal, though, is the panorama. Hiking options abound in the park, including the World’s End, a breathtaking vantage point at the apex of the hill region.
Adam’s Peak
About 20 miles (34 km) southwest of Nuwara Eliya lies Adam’s Peak. It is just the sixth highest peak on the island. For ages, this location has eased the sensibilities of visitors. For Sinhalese, the summit has traditionally been a sacred pilgrimage spot. An exposed rock with an irregular mark may be seen near the summit of the mountain. It’s thought to be the Buddha’s footprint during his visit to this location. Another theory is that it was here that Adam initially arrived after being exiled from paradise.
