Plain of Jars Site # 1

About 6.2 miles (10 km) southwest of Phonsavan is the intriguing Plain of Jars Site # 1. Thong Hai Hin is the native name for it. Around 250 enormous stone urns (jars) of uncertain origin have been discovered at the site. These jars weigh between 500 and 1000 kg and stand between 3 and 10 feet (1 and 3 metres) tall. They’re strewn about in an unorganised fashion. The origin, function, and date of these jars remain unknown to historians.

Plain of Jars Site # 2

Site # 2 of the Plain of Jars is located around 15.5 miles (25 kilometres) south of Phonsavan.  Hai Hin Phu Salato is the native name for it. Nearly 90 jars are strewn across two slopes in this location. A jar lid may also be found here. It’s a large stone disc with a carved human figure on it. You may drive to the bottom of the slope in your vehicle. After that, you’ll need to walk for a few minutes to get to the main site.

Plain of Jars Site # 3

Plain of Jars Site # 3 is the best of the three Plain of Jars locations. Hai Hin Laat Khai is the native name for it. This location is close to Ban Sieng Di Village. It’s around 6.2 miles (10 km) south of Plain of Jars Site #2 and 15.5 miles (25 km) south of Phonsavan. There are over 150 jars dispersed under the trees at this location. These jars are generally black and can be found standing upright or leaning against a wall. Each jar is several hundred kilos in weight. How these jars got to the top of the hill is still a mystery.
