Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat is a temple complex in Cambodia. Suryavarman II constructed this magnificent wat in the 12th century. Lord Vishnu is honoured at this wat. This very gorgeous temple complex, which is surrounded by a moat, is thought to reflect the spatial world. There are three levels to the centre temple. From the third floor, the central tower rises to a height of 101.7 feet (31 metres). Beautiful bas-reliefs narrate a variety of Hindu mythology stories across the major temple complex. The Churning of the Ocean of Milk, which depicts demons and gods, is the most appealing.
Angkor Thom
North of Angkor Wat is the fortified royal city of Angkor Thom. On the right bank of the Siem Reap River, it is placed. It was built in the 12th century by Jayavarman VII. The Buddhist ruler of the Khmer Kingdom was Jayavarman VII. This walled city, which is created in the shape of a quadrangle, has five magnificent gates with Avalokiteshvara faces on the tops. A moat and strong walls encircled the city. Angkor Thom’s walls are around 7.4 miles (12 kilometres) long and 20 feet (6 metres) height. A multitude of structures, including temples, palaces, and other ruins, dating from the 12th and 13th centuries may be found here.
The Banyon
Banyon, which dates from 1200 AD, is located within the walled city of Angkor Tham. Jayavarman III was the one who built it. The temple is comprised of a complicated network of galleries and towers. There are around 216 large Avalokiteshvara faces here that hypnotise visitors. Bas-reliefs covering 3937 feet (1200 m) show numerous scenarios from the king’s and town’s lives are equally impressive. A total of 11,000 figures are depicted in these bas-reliefs. Early morning or late evening are the finest times to view this magnificent landmark.
Ta Prohm
This historic edifice, near Angkor Thom, dated from the 12th century. Inside is a Mahayana Buddhist temple with several passageways. In the interior, you may see beautiful brickwork and inscriptions. Since its discovery a century ago, the building has received little attention. Many elements of the building are rotting and weakening. This location has been served as a set for a number of films, including Tomb Raider, Two Brothers, and others.
