Classical Gardens of Suzhou
Around one thousand years ago, during the reign of the Song dynasty, the Classical Gardens of Suzhou were designed and constructed. Wangshi Yuan, also known as the Master of the Nets Garden, Shizi Lin, also known as the Lion Grove Garden, and Zhuozheng Yuan, also known as the Humble Administrator’s Garden, are three of Suzhou’s most well-known gardens. Suzhou is home to a variety of large and small gardens. The price of admission varies from one garden to the next. The whole complex of gardens in Suzhou is one that is well worth visiting due to the presence of ponds, pavilions, bridges, rocks, and paintings.
Hanshan Si
The Hanshan Si Temple, also known as the Cold Mountain Temple, can be found around 5 kilometres west of the main city of Suzhou. Around the year 500 A.D., the temple was constructed. The Puming Ta pagoda that may be seen here was constructed in the 11th century. Within the walls of the temple complex is a monument that has a bronze statue of Zhang Ji, a well-known poet from the Tang dynasty. Around the time of the New Year, this location plays host to a large number of tourists from Japan.
Ruiguang Pagoda
Ruiguang Pagoda lies northeast of the city wall. Around a thousand years ago, the foundation for the first building on this site was laid. The structure that you see right now is the renovated version of the old one. This pagoda is particularly proud of having housed a remarkable Buddhist stupa, which was afterwards relocated to the Suzhou Museum.
Xuanmiao Guan
Temple of Mystery, also known as Xuanmiao Guan, can be found to the south of Shizi Lin (Lion Grove) and to the north of Guangian Jie. The third century saw the construction of this location’s first temple. Despite this, it has been reconstructed on several occasions after being destroyed. A sizable court may be seen in the front of the building in its current iteration. Several Taoist deities are shown in statue form inside an inner hall. The temple is a bustling location that is constantly packed with a large number of visitors throughout the day.
