Museum of Axel Bakounts

Museum of Axel Bakounts in Goris is located on Mesrop Mashtots Poghots. It was previously the home of writer Axel Bakounts, who perished in the Stalin purges in 1937. The museum contains stone walls and a gallery that is typical of Goris homes. A number of artefacts belonging to the author, as well as various furniture, may be found here. The majority of the items on display are from the nineteenth century.

Tatev Monastery

Tatev hamlet in Goris is home to the spectacular walled Tatev monastery. The bishops of Syunik were responsible for its construction. Here you’ll discover fading frescoes and engravings. You’ll also find here portraits of those who donated to the monastery. Surp Grigor church, which was built in the 11th century, is located here. Near Surp Grigor Church, there is an octagonal pillar with a khatchkar on top. It was constructed in the 9th century and was also used to predict earthquakes.
